This 7-minute Mediation Does Wonders

I just finished my daily 7-minute meditation and I felt compelled to share my experience with you.

Before I was married and had kids, I meditated daily…for 20 minutes. I kind of abandoned it for the past 10 years. But, necessity is the mother of invention…or meditation, for that matter.

I really feel that it is essential to find our own personal method of meditation. This is what I am doing. Maybe you will find an element in it that sparks something for you.

Duration: I found I only need 7 minutes and my mood (let’s be honest…moods with an “s”) has lifted, my energy level is up, and I am more patient with the family. It’s true. You can ask them.

Apps: I found 2 great apps, Paced Breathing and Respirelax+ to help me get started. I love them both!

Breathing: Inhale through the nose, exhale through the mouth. You can set your inhale, hold, and exhale to any amount of time you want. I set mine at 6s inhale, 4s hold, 9s exhale, 4s hold.

Music: I put on my Relaxing Music Mix (posted on the Gurugrid FB page if you want to check it out). Weightless by Marconi Union is 8 minutes, and it is a super relaxing, non-intrusive piece of music. I Googled "Most Relaxing Music in the World" et voilà! it popped up on several outlets - so it must be good, right?

Mantra: I have been doing this mantra for a few days, and I really love it. It was sparked by something I saw on Instagram. The post was “INHALE THE FUTURE, EXHALE THE PAST”. It sounded good to me, so I gave it a try. Something didn’t feel right. What about the GOOD past and what about the BAD future? Nope. That wasn’t going to work. Almost immediately, I thought of “INHALE THE BEST OF ME, EXHALE THE WORST OF ME”.  Yes! I am digging this!

Visualization: I visualize my body filling up with the best energy of ME – from inside of me. I stopped visualizing it from outside because I know this potential is within us all. Sometimes I see it as blue, sometimes white. Whatever. Then I visualize the worst parts of me gently evaporating from my me like steam.  Sometimes it is like the scene with Michael Clarke Duncan in The Green Mile. You know the one? And I let go. (This does not come naturally for me.)

Position: I lay down with my arms overhead like the way a baby sleeps and put my heels on the outside 4s on my Gurugrid. (You had to know that the Gurugrid was somehow involved in this.) I have always believed that my yoga mats held vibes. This is even more true of my Gurugrid, since I created it and have used it so extensively since it’s inception.

Atmosphere: Lights out, candles lit, spray this amazing “Bruine”  A la Source from https://www.laviecpur.com/ - seriously, it is impossible to describe, but I just love it!

It does seem like a lot, but I am in a routine now and I find myself looking forward to this time every day. It's a simple way to help deal with our stress & anxiety. It’s free, you can do it at home, and there are no dangerous side effects.

What do you think?
